Quick Hits:

1) Fall Baseball has started, although you still may be able to sign up.  While LJYB does not offer a fall/winter baseball league, there are some nearby leagues that offer some great programs that many kids in LJ have played in the past.  Best of all, these are very "low-key" commitments, with an understanding that other fall sports will have a higher priority (please see link below for more information).

2) The summer of 2010 proved to be one of the most successful on record for LJYB All-Stars.  Teams in Pinto, Mustang, and Bronco all advanced to regional play, while the Bronco Red team finished in 3rd place in the Western Zone tournament.  We are very proud of how all the teams represented our league.

3) Sign-ups for the 2011 season will begin in November.  5-6 year-olds play "Shetland" t-ball.  7-8 year-olds play "Pinto" machine pitch.  9-10 year-olds play "Mustang", which begins live pitching.  11-12 year-olds play "Bronco." 13-14 year-olds play in the "Pony" Division.  Your kid's age is determined as of April 30, 2011.  If you have any questions, please email us at: .

Fall Baseball
by posted 06/09/2010

Fall or "winter" baseball is played from late-August through mid-November.  Sign-ups begin in early-August.  The commitment usually involves one practice during the week and a game on Sunday, to avoid conflict with other commitments with fall sports.  Fall baseball tends to be more laid-back than even the spring rec season, and most managers try to emphasize developing fundamentals.

Most of the La Jolla kids that want to play recreational baseball during the fall/winter play in one of two leagues: Tecolote Baseball  or North City Baseball.  Tecolote offers two different programs: 1) the rec league - involving one practice during the week and game on Sunday and 2) Academy - involving 2 practices during the week and game on Sunday.  The Academy also is run by coaches/players from USD and the higher price reflects that.  Registration for both leagues is now open.

There are also opportunities to play baseball year-round with travel ball programs.  For more, see our page on travel baseball.

New for Fall 2010! An LJ Pony Winter Club Team! Your La Jolla ballplayer (who is 13-14 years old and who has just finished Bronco league or is returning to Pony league) can spend September to November playing on a Pony "academy team." This team will be coached by USD player/coaches, and will practice and play at the Tecolote Pony field against other Pony winter teams. Two practices a weeks, working on fundamentals essential for Pony play, and games on Sundays. Sept 12-Nov 7.  -- Cost: $325.00; To sign up: visit www.signmeup.com/71494 and choose the option for "Pony Academy (LJ)" when you get to check-out page. Questions? email Joe Smith, Pony Div. Pres.,
